The Sound of Freedom

Sometimes the sound of freedom is found
when a woman sits in an empty room
When the whole world seems to be sleeping
and her babies are tucked safely in their beds
She feels the air settle down
and sees the fog fill the valleys that once seemed so deep
She turns the light low
and picks up her pen
to fill the cool loneliness with words on a page
What spills out of her is no longer sadness or grief
but some rare kind of peace that can't be wasted with noise
and can only be truly loved in the quiet, simple moments
of being completely alone.
